Causes of Hair Loss: The Real Reasons for Hair Loss

Do your tresses threaten to abandon you every morning, leaving bristles on your hair brush full of hair? Do you get cold feet dreading the day when your tresses might be too thin to brush through without fear? Well, it is high time you armed yourself with the knowledge about the causes of hair loss. Did you know that hair loss occurs because of some common reasons, yet few people know much about those? Here are some of the general reasons for hair loss:

1. Did you know that your hormones can be pretty important reasons for hair loss? Men have high quantities of androgen hormone in their bodies, while women have estrogen. When the levels of these hormones in the body fluctuate, hair loss occurs. Women during pregnancy do not lose much hair, because of the high quantity of estrogen in their bodies at that time. After childbirth, however, the hair loss resumes as usual, as the body reacts to receding levels of estrogen.

2. Hair care regimens like curling and straightening of hair also strips it of its nutrients. Even tying thick rubber bands to hold your hair in a bunch can suffocate the roots of the hair, resulting in rapid hair loss. Using hot hair curlers on the head repeatedly or braiding your hair too tight can also have the same effect.

3. Medications: Many drugs that we consume are responsible for the alarming rate in increase of hair fall. Medications for hypertension, depression, heart disease and arthritis cause weakening of hair roots and hair fall. The radiation treatment for cancer is also a reason for hair fall.

4. Improper diet and stress: A diet low on iron and vitamins will make you anemic. In this case hair loss is but inevitable as the body lacks necessary nutrients to strengthen the roots and scalp and promote cell growth. A healthy mind results in a healthy body. Telogen Effluvium is a hair loss caused by sudden stress. Stress induces hormonal changes which is an important factor inducing hair fall. This kind of hair loss is seen mostly in women than in men.

5. Genetic reasons – Did your grandpa have a bald head by the time he reached 50? Be careful, because his genes are also in you. Genetic traits influence the level of male and female hormones in a person. This, in turn, directly influences the rate of hair fall in a person.

Prolonged illness and treatment, fungal infections and ageing are also some reasons for hair loss. Some of the symptoms leading to hair loss that you could look out for are the presence of excess dandruff on the scalp, hair loss in small patches, gradual loss of hair near the temples and oily or itchy patches on the scalp. The solutions and remedies are as varied as the reasons for hair loss. The only way to figure the right way out is to identify your type of hair loss problem and seek the corresponding aid.
